York Christmas Market

City centre Blue Badge holder access

Blue Badge access to the footstreets and Christmas Market is being discussed at a City of York Council Executive meeting on the evening of Thursday 14 November. We'll update these pages after that meeting.

The 2 routes into York city centre, via Blake Street and Goodramgate, will be unavailable for use by Blue Badge holders during the York Christmas Markets period, from Thursday 14 November to Sunday 22 December 2024, between the hours of 10.30am and 7.00pm.

Access will remain open for all vehicles overnight every day from 7.00pm until 10.30am.

When the Blue Badge access routes opened it was agreed that at extremely busy times during major events, such as during the Christmas Markets, these routes would need to close temporarily. This will be the first such closure since the routes opened.

There are dedicated Blue Badge parking spaces across the city, including at:

  • Duncombe Place
  • Piccadilly
  • St Saviourgate
  • Tower Street

Blue Badge holders can park on single yellow lines or double yellow lines for a maximum of 3 hours, as long as there is not a loading ban in place, or they don’t block ramps, junctions, side road access.

The Blue Badge parking location map on the City of York Council website will help you to find the parking you need.

See the Blue Badge Christmas Market accessibility guide on Visit York.
