City centre Blue Badge holder access

Changes to Blue Badge access to York's footstreets and York Christmas Market were discussed at an Executive meeting on Thursday 14 November, resulting in an extra 2 hours of access, via Goodramgate.

Until Tuesday 26 November Blue Badge holders can access York city centre between 7.00pm and 10.30am via Blake Street and Goodramgate.

From Tuesday 26 November Blue Badge holders can access York city centre via:

  • Blake Street from 7.00pm to 10.30am
  • Goodramgate from 5.00pm to 10.30am
    • your Blue Badge will be checked by staff at barriers between 5.00pm and 7.00pm
    • you can only drive along Goodramgate and Colliergate, with limited parking on Goodramgate only
    • please be aware traders will be leaving Shambles Market via this route

All vehicles can access York city centre between 7.00pm and 10.30am throughout the Christmas Market period.


There are dedicated Blue Badge parking spaces across the city, including at:

  • Duncombe Place
  • Piccadilly
  • St Saviourgate
  • Tower Street

Blue Badge holders can park on single yellow lines or double yellow lines for a maximum of 3 hours, as long as there is not a loading ban in place, or they don’t block ramps, junctions, side road access.
