York Wheels is a voluntary organisation which provides a transport service for people who cannot easily access public transport. To use the service, you must be over 60, disabled or in receipt of benefits.
York Wheels provide a pre-booked car service operating between 8.00am and 4.30pm on weekdays.
In addition to journeys to the doctor, dentist, hospital, shops, York Wheels can offer:
- visits to see friends or family
- trips to the coast
- visits to cinemas, libraries, coffee bars, restaurants, surrounding towns and cities
For more information please see the York Wheels website or call telephone: 01904 630080.
Volunteer drivers required
- Are you a driver with access to a vehicle?
- Do you have time to spare?
- Would you like to start voluntary work but don’t know how?
If you can answer ‘yes’ to these questions, then York Wheels would be interested to hear from you.
Community car schemes can help enormously to combat social isolation and alleviate peoples’ transport difficulties making a huge positive impact on the well being of the people using it, and those providing it too! Drivers use their own cars to provide a transport service and are reimbursed their costs.
If you have your own car, a few hours to spare each week and want to help, contact York Wheels on telephone: 01904 726786 to have an initial chat and to find out if they can be the voluntary organisation for you.
